2021.09.20 04:30 SlimSanders Least amount of $ per mile?
So today I got a delivery that said 45 min- 31 miles
The pay was $36 but the delivery ended up taking 1.5 hours, and I ended up 40 minutes away from my house.
Was it worth it? I don’t think so. When you guys see an offer whats usually the least you’ll do per mile to drive? I thought a little over $1 a mile would’ve been cool, but forgot it’s technically 60-70 miles total back and forth

2021.09.20 04:30 midnightmk4 Eero 6 3 Pack vs Eero Pro 6 2 Pack?
Hello all. So I’m currently using just one Eero 5. It works okay. The farther away I get, like most routers, the worse it gets. My current plan with spectrum is 200D/10-12U. It’s an okay plan, it works for me. Here’s the nitty gritty details. Currently live alone, might have another individual move into my house with me. I’m not a super heavy internet user, so no use for gig. Combined, our devices would be like <25.
Speaking of the house, it was built in the late 60’s, so kind of thick walls. About 1300 SQFT. The router is about 50 feet away in the back of the house (hardwired to PC in computer room). I’m already losing a bar or so at times in the living room, and speeds can get as low as 20 download in here. Closer to the router, it of course goes up to 200. I don’t have Gig and don’t plant to upgrade to it. My speeds may get upgraded to 400, but that will likely be it as I don’t need gig.
So my dilemma is between the 2 Pro 6’s and the 3 Eero 6’s. While the 2 pros are more powerful, are they really necessary? All I’m looking for is my stable 200-(potentially)400 mbps down and my 10-12 up around the house. Ping is usually around 10-20.

2021.09.20 04:30 mentallnews A Generation Extinguished
She wakes up at exactly six in the morning, washes her face to fully awake from her sleep. There’s a mirror in front of her but she is not able to look at it because it reminds her of yesternight, and every other night for about ten years of her life.
On a thin mattress on the floor, she stares and smiles. She smiles because that is her reason to be alive. “Wake up it’s time for school,” she says and the little one stretches and yawns as he tries to awake. She ensures that he finishes his breakfast, washes, dresses and finally he is ready to go to school. When he is done, with excitement he heads for the door but she pulls him back. She gets down on her knees and for a minute’s gaze is lost in his eyes. In them, she sees herself once as a little girl full of hopes, ambitions, and dreams. Hopes, dreams, and ambitions that have never been.
The moment is interrupted by the child who says: ‘m…..u…m…I’m getting late.’ Mom…yes, she is a mother and the word makes her smile. It reminds her of her role in society. A society that has made her an outcast, a leper, an untouchable. But she is proud because of the little one and she kisses him. A tender yet loving kiss on his forehead, and off he runs outside the door to face the world.
The door is wide open but she does not want to close it because she enjoys the sight. The sight of her future; running, hopping, and singing. Suddenly the wind blows the door shut and it’s back to reality. The room she is in is small. How small? She stands in the middle and stretches to feel just a touch of her reality. Suddenly her right leg is in the bedroom, her left leg is in the kitchen, in front of her there is a curtain and her right hand is in the bathroom. At the last corner where her left hand is, there is a table which they use for meals and the little one uses for studying.
She spends the day cleaning the small room and cooking, preparing for her child’s arrival from school. Before she knows it there is a knock on the door and in walks the highlight of her every day. She greets him with hugs and kisses, asks about his day, prepares a meal for him for now it has become dark. They have dinner and the child is put to bed.
Out of the door, she strolls. In her short skirt and high heels. Patiently waiting for the night trolls who have been feeding on her innocence and dreams. But with every nibble and bite, she fights because she believes her son’s future is bright.
For you see a boy in the African context is groomed to be a man that fathers, provides for, and protects a generation. Only in this family, they were both shunned by family and society as they were cast out when she got pregnant as a teenager out of fear of how the family in which she was the only daughter would be perceived. So with the vow to raise her newborn son by any means necessary, after trying all that she possibly was capable of at the time, resulted to sell her body to the highest bidder for nights on end and for as cheap as the price of bread so that they both could survive.
“Kamom!!” uko poa? One of the guys who knew her called out to her as she was wading past the gutters of sewage and uneven grounds in her high heels. “Niko poa, Brayo,” she responded as they bumped fists and he sneaked in a hug when they got closer to each other. In this part of Dandora everyone seemed to not only know each other but also knew each other’s business or hustle to earn a living. So in the thick of night, she was greeted by those who plied their trade in what would be described as the ‘night shift’ as she walked through the narrow paths through the aluminum, mud, and semi brick houses to the matatu stage on her way to town.
The cold, dark streets of river road in downtown Nairobi were filled with rows upon rows of ladies of the night with outfits that were akin to a lingerie lineup or photoshoot is where Kamom ensconced herself this night as she had done before. After the greetings and niceties with her fellow colleagues, it was now down to the wait for her first client. In this world competition was cutthroat and brutal, you did not just have to look good but you had to be abrasive as well as aggressive to get that client because this meant if you did not score then your basic needs would remain unmet, and with her only son at the back of her mind and always in her heart she was one of the most aggressive but because of her kind nature was the most sought after by clients.
On this night aliamka na mguu poa (she had woken up on the right side) it seemed as she did not have to wait for long before a car with tinted windows stopped suddenly where she was. Three other ladies as well as kamom approached the passenger side and as they got closer the driver rolled down the window. Upon looking inside, it was one of her regular clients. “Mambo Frank!” she greeted him. “Poa mrembo,” he replied. “Leo na cheki umeomoka….,” she said in jest as she noticed that today, unlike other days, he had a car. After the greetings, niceties, flirtatious small talk, and negotiations, she got into the car and now both of them were headed to a room which he told her that he was staying at.
The journey there was filled with small talk, stories, and conversation filled with heavy innuendo in anticipation of what lay ahead. They finally arrived after about an hour of wading through the streets of Hurlingham, the gate was opened after Frank honked. Now they were heading up to the first floor of this three-story house. To anyone who would have set their eyes on them they seemed like the cutest couple who could not keep their hands to themselves as they walked up the narrow stairwell. They finally got to the door, he ushered her in first before looking around and hurriedly getting in behind her, locking the door.
All this while she thought they were going to be just the two of them. Upon turning to face the living room, her fight or flight instinct suddenly picked as she realized that now there were three other men beside Frank. The scene was unnerving to her, she was a deer in a lion’s den in a room with four ominous-looking men. It was a cold, dark night and she was unaware of her whereabouts. All she could do now was say a silent prayer, which she did, and hope for the best out of the situation.
Oscar suddenly woke up even before six when his mother would be nudging him to wake up to get ready for school. He was now drenched in sweat from a nightmare he had and he called out to his mom and when she did not respond he curled up in fear on his bed and hoped that when his mom woke up, she would dash to him. He waited and waited till now concern turned into worry as his mother had never missed to wake him up or be around whenever he needed her. You see kamom would ensure that no matter how the night turned out to be, she always made sure to make it home before her son was to wake up. She lived for her son and taking care of him gave her the zeal for life.
In this community in which everyone knew each other’s business, the prostitute had no friends, confidants, or acquaintances except fellow prostitutes and the prostitute’s son had no friends to play with as the other children were given strict warnings not to fraternize, play or associate with him. So when Oscar could not find the one person who had been there all his life taking care of him no matter what, he decided to open the door as his mom had taught him in case of an emergency and he went looking for her.
While walking in the busy pathways of Dandora where everyone is in a hurry walking to whatever their destination, at ten years old Oscar was a terrified soul as he tried to wade through the people, uneven ground, trenches filled with sewage and garbage as he called for his mother hoping that among the people she would hear him and they would be together again. He walked and walked and walked some more till his small feet coupled with the hunger pangs could not carry him through, so he sat on a pavement outside a small kiosk just to take a rest. Being so tired he dozed off and suddenly he was awoken by the splat! of dirty water dripping on his head from the floor above where he sat. He got up, shook himself like a wet dog, and because of the shock he took off running for a few paces and suddenly stopped. As he continued walking he would come across a huge crowd of people gathered where the dumpsite was. Due to his size he could not manage to see what was happening so he decided despite his curiosity to continue walking past the crowd and the policemen that were now present at the scene.
“The body of an adult female was discovered today at the Dandora dumpsite, reports state that she was a known prostitute who lived in the area. Her body was found stripped naked with what appeared to be stab wounds and her throat was slit. Police say that the incident is under investigation………” this is what the news piece on the television broadcast but Oscar was too exhausted, starved, and was now crying because for the entire day of looking and calling out for his mom till his voice was now hoarse she was nowhere to be found, what the world had chosen to hide from him though at the time was that she was the one that the news was reporting on at that very moment as he sat outside on the cement floor of a hotel wallowing in his misery. This day would mark a new yet bleak future for Oscar from the only son of a caring and loving mother to now a street urchin at only the age of ten.
“Tokeni hapa!…..kwendeni kabisa!! (Get out of here!!) a man wielding a whip shouted at the young street urchins and Oscar among them, took off running. You see by now, to survive in the mean streets of Nairobi, Oscar had learned the art of snatch and grab. In a pack of three, they would identify the target which was usually an old lady, old man, or anyone overwhelmed with shopping bags or distracted by life’s baggage, and with a predator like motion, they would stalk the target slowly while remaining cautious of their surroundings and when the moment was right they would pounce and grab whatever they could and off they would run. With such cases on the rise, people became more vigilant and whenever any of the street urchins would be caught, mob justice would be meted out on them and as the years went by Oscar had lost some of his friends or fellow street urchins he knew of to the brunt of mobs that extinguished the lives of the young men and women.
It is said that the human being is the most adaptive creature and indeed when survival is the only thing that you are trying to do, Oscar had to find other means that would not end in him bearing the brunt of mob justice. So together with his friends, they devised a scheme in which the target was cars stuck in traffic in which one of them would hold in his hand a fist full of fecal matter and when they spotted a motorist with their windows rolled down, they would ambush them, exposing the disgusting sludge and demand for money. Most people complied because no one wanted to smell like shit which is what happened to those who argued or failed to comply as they would have their faces, hair, and clothes smeared. This hustle was quite lucrative and it saw Oscar and his gang rise up in the streets to unmatched status and fame since with money then there comes power even in the street urchins’ world.
When other gangs caught up to their hustle the competition would prove quite stiff and the earnings were quite meager as compared to when they started. “Asiye funzwa na mamaye, hufunzwa na ulimwengu” (If one is not taught by the mother, the world becomes their teacher) so goes the Kiswahili proverb, and the lesson that would momentarily incapacitate Oscar and ensure that his criminal ways were curtailed for quite a while would come on a sunny Friday afternoon at a place known as Muthurwa. There was heavy traffic on this day and so this spelled huge opportunities for Oscar and his gang. He was now fifteen, in the thick of his teens and his body was built like a rugby player and with the experience of running from trouble, he was as fast as the wind. On this day he held the handful of shit as they approached an SUV with tinted windows in which the driver had completely rolled down his window and seemed oblivious to the surroundings as he jammed to the music blasting from his stereo. Brandishing the hand full of sludge, Oscar and his two friends were now demanding money from the driver, with the threat of smearing him if he failed to comply. What they failed to see were the two passengers at the back seat. “Tupatie doo!!” (Give us money!!) they demanded, now shouting at the driver who seemed hesitant. In the span of a few seconds, Oscar was engulfed by a sharp pain on his face, the driver had punched him as hard as could and he fell to the floor, both back doors flung open and upon seeing this his friends fled. Now Oscar was confronted with his worst nightmare. He thought fast and smeared the feces on his face thinking the men would avoid touching or coming even close to him. They did not seem to care, kicks and punches rained on him and they hit like a tone of bricks. Realizing that the incident was quickly gathering attention, he had to act fast amidst the beating for if he did not today would be the last day he thought. Suddenly he picked one of the men and tackled him to the ground by clasping his legs. The move worked and he found an escape route which saw him crawl underneath the cars still stuck in traffic and come out on the other side of the road, where he escaped into the street alleys, full of junkies and fellow street urchins since he knew even the most daring of men would not venture into these alleyways.
When the adrenaline subsided the phantom pains from the beating suddenly hit him with no mercy. He could no longer manage to walk straight, his nose could not stop gushing blood and the pain he felt in his rib cage was so immense that he passed out within just a few minutes. When he came to, he was lying in a hospital bed all bandaged up with a broken nose, three fractured ribs, and minor fractures in his hands as well as legs. It took days for him to recover, but the time in hospital provided much thinking time to enable him to gain perspective on his life. He resolved to change his ways for he told himself that the next time he would not be so lucky as to escape with his life.
The hospital bill was immense and the amount was indeed astronomical to him as he had no cent to his name. He had heard about God, especially from his mom as he now recalled, who had told him that he was ever forgiving, ever-loving and he granted prayers when called upon. So Oscar prayed in silence for the first time in a long time. “Dear God, I ask you to forgive me my sins, I pray that you may help me find my mom wherever she may be and I ask you to help me get out of this hospital. If you do this God I promise to change my ways.” For days now God it seemed had not answered or perhaps heard Oscar’s prayers at least that’s what he thought to himself. So he had to devise a plan to get out of this place. Applying his streets smarts to the situation, he realized that the night guard usually fell asleep at 10p.m. the door to the ward in which he was in was not locked but it led to the hallway which had traffic from the hospital personnel. However, the windows were big enough to pass through. All he had to do was jump out the window, dash across the small field that led to the gate being as quiet as he possibly could be, and from there he would scale the gate by jumping to the other side, and off he would run to wherever his legs could carry him to. His plan would work perfectly and now he was back in the streets again which despite the dangers that always lurked it felt like home.
In the streets Oscar had graduated from a street urchin to a petty thief, to now a hardened criminal who now went by the street name ‘Shatta.’ You see when he last prayed at the hospital and God had not answered his prayer as he thought he would, it was the last time he even considered doing that again. Since he found an article from an old newspaper with: ‘prostitute slain in Dandora,’ as the headline and from the vivid description and the photo he had finally deduced that his mother who he viewed with the eyes of angelic innocence from the age of ten when he last saw her was dead and gone, anger consumed his twenty-year-old body, mind, and spirit as he really did not have anything to live for. With the influence of his fellow peers, he now frequently indulged in riding the high waves of alcohol, khat, and marijuana which were fed by his life of crime. In fact, the birth of Shatta was a baptism from his trigger happy ways whenever they went for a “mradi” (job). He was ruthless to a fault, especially regarding that he was always high on either a drug or the deep-rooted venomous anger he held for the world.
At midnight two cars sped on Komarock road, in front was a white Toyota sedan with four young men inside, three of them cursing and nervously cocking their guns ready for a fight. Giving chase was a police land cruiser with sirens blaring and cops armed to the teeth, ready to take on whomever they were chasing. When the land cruiser started gaining on the sedan the passengers in the back seat fired simultaneously at the police car. This indeed was not going to end well for the persons in the sedan. Suddenly weaving through the now empty road towards Dandora, the cars seemed to be heading towards the dumpsite. As they were about to reach, with marksmen accuracy the officers managed to shoot the tires of the car, the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped. The driver died instantly as he went through the windshield, the three passengers Shatta included decided not to surrender but put up a fight. Unfortunately, they were no match for the cops as well as their backup and thus one by one their lives came to an end under a hail of bullets.
On the garbage landfill, both Oscar aka Shatta, and his mom before him lost their lives tragically. Since they were both outcasts, ostracized by family and society, life nor death neither were kind to them. Thus extinguished a generation that if circumstances were perhaps different, Oscar may have fathered, protected, and provided for a generation that would chart a brighter future than the one he had but such is life. Some generations live and thrive while others remain as folk or cautionary tales.

2021.09.20 04:30 renaeng False Positive PCR Test - After previous Infection
My sister was planning to come home after being overseas for 3 years. A month ago she tested positive via PCR Test just before her scheduled flight, with suitcases packed and ready to go. So she moved her flight by a month (you cant enter SGP within 21 days of a positive PCR test). She already tested negative via PCR test a week after her first test. And then confirmed again negative at the compulsory PCR test 48 hours before departure. Meaning she was likely at the end of her infection (asymptomatic so she didnt even realize) and recovered within a week of being tested positive.
She finally arrived in Singapore and her on arrival PCR test is positive. You can imagine our shock. As we know she just recovered and tested twice negative already, so this must be her shedding viral load post infection. It was picked up by the Singapore PCR test, as their testing intensity is much higher than other countries. A negative PCR test overseas, can be positive in Singapore, simply because they are looking at much higher Cycle Threshold (CT number of 35->40) when testing. And a lot of people continue to shed viral load long post their infection.
For now she is isolated in her room (SHN) but it seemed like the person calling didn't really know how to handle this case either. My sister has proof (PCR Test) that she was tested positive a month ago and has recovered. I googled and most other countries treat a previous infection within 6 month the same as a full vaccination as you technically cant become infectious again within that time frame. All you need to show is the positive PCR test and the date.
There is no info on any MOH / SafeTravel page, and I hope someone here knows, or has experience with a similar situation!
